It remains that conflict has been used to do just that throughout recorded history.

Your article is very well done, a good read.Geraldhttp://www.greatmilitarybattles.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1272107330251408114.post-24565186304334135542014-05-27T09:09:10.952-05:002014-05-27T09:09:10.952-05:00Hello Anon,

Clarke (my great grandfather)

My family and I are still discussing Col. Clarke's effects and I very much appreciated the opportunity to meet with you this winter. Incidently, Francis Clarke's (Isaac's brother) brother in law, Aaron Scott, was an inlisted soldier in Col. Clarke's Regiment and was with Col. Clarke from the time he was wounded until he died three days later. Aaron himself was later a casulty of the war.

Lew Clarke (Isaac's great-grandson)Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18407874189589996443noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1272107330251408114.post-43139992724636483022013-10-29T15:50:37.935-05:002013-10-29T15:50:37.935-05:00In the Lake County IL Veterans Burial inventory, i...In the Lake County IL Veterans Burial inventory, it does show Thomas Ames's burial at Ivanhoe/Fremont Center Cemetery. Also, he is not listed on the Nationwide Gravesite Locator with the Dept. of Veterans Affairs.

Odds are he is buried at home, since the family went to the expense of putting up a tombstone, they probably brought his body home. A common practice at the time.

Thank you for your comment.
Diana Dretskehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10869264189532595690noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1272107330251408114.post-20049293354229242682013-09-20T11:35:35.162-05:002013-09-20T11:35:35.162-05:00My great-grand uncle, Thomas Jefferson Ames...died...My great-grand uncle, Thomas Jefferson Ames...died of wounds October 4, 1863 sustained at Chickamauga. He was a Sergeant in Co G, 51 Illinois Infantry. There is a marker for him in Ivanhoe Cemetery in the Ames family plot...but not sure if he was actually interred there or on the battlefield. A letter was published in the Waukegan newspaper he wrote while he was a soldier. He married in 1863 not too long prior to his death..his widow received a widows pension up until the late 1920's!
